Baking

Today my sister-in-law Erin and I got together and made a few baked foods. The kids had tonnes of fun playing together and helping and we got quite a bit done.

Butter tarts, Oreo Balls, Gingersnaps, Chewy Pecan Cookies, Whipped Shortbread Cookies, and Peanut Butter Fudge

My kids love helping me in the kitchen. They made brownies for a get together at my parents place the other day, taking turns putting each ingredient in. They were very excited to get a picture taken and show the results.

Cake Decorating level 2

I just finished my level 2 cake decorating classes at michaels. This level you only made one cake at the end and learned how to do mostly flowers the other weeks. I really enjoyed making this cake, I love the basketweave technique and the rope border. We made the flowers out of royal iciing which makes it not really edible, more for looks.

I made this bird out of color flow iciing. Zoë got her hands on the container and broke the bird before I could put it on the cake

Strawberry Pie

Just realized I have been doing quite a bit of baking lately after seeing some previous blog posts i've already done. It is so fun for me to bake and to try something new and know that I can do it without anybody's help. I had alot of berries in my fridge from the crepe party so I decided to make some pie. I am not a fan of the frozen dough so I decided to make my own. It was super easy to make, I probably won't ever use the frozen dough again.

Birthday Cake

It was my sister-in-law Erin's birthday today, so I decided to make a cake for the family dinner.

I made a 3 layer chocolate cake with cookies and cream filling

Zoë wanted to practice her designs as well.

Final Product, I decided to do a vintage grape cake with leaves bordering the bottom

Cake Decorating Class

This month I have been going to a cake decorating class, it has been SO fun. Unfortunately my hard drive crashed and I no longer have a picture of my first cake which was a rainbow cake. I found the hardest part in the course was getting the right consistency with the iciing, even a couple drops of water could change the whole consistency.

This is someone else's rainbow cake, but mine looked very similar.

My finale cake, I torted the cake before all the iciing and put some pudding inside the middle of the cake as well.

Sugar Cookies

Lee had a couple days off from studying and school so we decided to make sugar cookies. Zoë is becoming such a good helper in the kitchen, she can do some of the prepping for me which helps out a bit. If we have something baking in the oven she brings a chair and sits down and watches it cook, she finds it fascinating.

Putting the flour in (VERY messy)

Taste test again while iciing (only had red food colouring so decided to make pink cookies)

High Bridge Waterfall

Lee had a day off work yesterday so we took advantage of it and went out in the evening. The kids wore themselves out at an indoor playground. Its great cause Dreyton has a tonne of fun too now since he can crawl and climb really good now.
Since U of A is having there 100th anniversary they had the high bridge waterfall going with the colours of the school shining on it. Zoë and Dreyton were able to stay up a little past there bedtime to go see it. After the kids were in bed Lee and I splurged on my favourite storebought cake! It was SO good!

As soon as Lee had taken the picture he told me there were 3 massive spiders right behind me, gross!

Update of the Family

Lee has been stressing out this whole week getting up at 4am everyday to study as he had two big accounting finals right after one another yesterday, thankfully they are all done and he was able to feel good with how he did. I have been having to get up early as well this week with Zoë so we both went to bed at 9:30pm last night. I have no pictures right now as I am packing to move on Thursday and I would not allow anyone to see the disaster. We got the back window fixed on our van, we were able to get it under warranty as it may have been a defect in the window, which was a great relief to us. Tonight Lee and I made sugar cookies and chocolate chip cookies after Zoë went to bed,
